Tokyo International Film Festival Selected as Member of FIAPF Festivals Committee

The Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) is pleased to announce that it has been selected to become a member of the Festivals Committee at the FIAPF (Fédération Internationale des Associations de Producteurs de Films; English: International Federation of Film Producers Associations), a global organization representing the film production community worldwide and a key operator for film festivals worldwide.

As an international institution, FIAPF promotes conditions for film production to flourish across the globe, in particular by vigorously defending relevant copyright framework and strong protection for films and other creative content. As the organization supervising the world’s film festivals, it also accredits film festivals and draws up the operation regulations of the accredited film festivals.

The primary role of the Festivals Committee is to provide a platform to discuss the evolution and the issues faced between International Film Festivals and in the relations between producers or their mandates and International Film Festivals. Its role also includes the monitoring of the accredited festivals’ performance, recommendations to FIAPF on the regulations for international film festivals and supporting conflict resolution between the festivals.

It has a total of 14 members, including the president of FIAPF, three committee members from the film industry appointed by FIAPF, eight representatives of accredited film festivals who are elected by the accredited festivals’ online vote, and two other representatives of accredited festivals appointed by FIAPF.

On this occasion, TIFF has been selected for a three-year term from 2021 to 2024 and joins the Festivals Committee for the first time together with
Berlin International Film Festival (Germany),
Busan International Film Festival (Korea) ,
Cannes Film Festival (France),
Locarno Film Festival (Switzerland),
Mar del Plata International Film Festival (Argentina),
Shanghai International Film Festival (China),
Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (Estonia),
Toronto International Film Festival (Canada) and
Venice International Film Festival (Italy).

We will continue to strive to raise the status of TIFF among the world’s film festivals, and appreciate your ongoing support.
