Wada Emi, an Academy Award-winning Japanese costume designer, passed away on November 13 at the age of 84.
She received the Academy Award for Best Costume Design in 1986 for her work on Ran (1985) directed by Akira Kurosawa.
Her most well-known titles include Ran (1985), The Pillow Book (1995), The Soong Sisters (1997), Gohatto (1999), Hero (2003) and They Say Nothing Stays The Same (2019), and one of her latest works Love After Love (2020) directed by Ann Hui was screened at the 33rd Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) at World Focus section.

Wada also served as a jury member of the International Competition section at 5th TIFF (1995).
